poem was written by John Keats in 1816 shortly after reading Homer for
the first time. Up until that point, Homer’s epic poems were unavailable
to those who did not read Greek. Chapman, the name mentioned in the
title, refers to George Chapman. He was an Elizabethan playwright who
translated Homer’s works into English. How do you think Keats felt on
first looking into Chapman’s Homer?
